Solidarity Centre Foundation was established in late 1999. The founders were: Lech Wałęsa, Archbishop Tadeusz Gocłowski, NSZZ 'Solidarność', the City of Gdańsk, the Pomeranian Voivodeship, the Lech Wałęsa Institute, the Gdansk region of NSZZ 'Solidarność', the Intercompany Committee of NSZZ 'Solidarność' at Gdańsk Shipyard PLC, Gdańsk Shipyard PLC.
The Foundation executes its aims by:
• creating educational programmes,
• organising school meetings with participants of historical events,
• organising exhibitions abroad,
• organising annual celebrations of the anniversary of the Gdansk Agreement,
• organising conferences and lectures on the concepts behind the Solidarity movement,
• publishing materials,
• establishing contacts with Polish and international institutions which promote civil rights and democracy all over the world.
